Haircare | Spot Hair Conditioning - Natural hairstyle for mens and womens

I've always had such great success with conditioning certain areas of my hair separately, specifically my ends or my edges. Mid 2010 was the first time I started applying conditioner only to the last couple of inches of my hair as it was in such a terrible state that I hoped it might curb the breakage. It became a great pick-me-up for my strands, and targeting problem areas in this way really helped with overcoming some serious hair damage.

I recently spent a week skiing in the snowy French Alps and one day it was -14! My ends suffered so much from the cold even with daily moisturising whilst the rest of my hair stayed relatively hydrated. I was only able to fully condition my hair once whilst on holiday (due to having limited product) and eventually I had a lightbulb moment. I could have focused the conditioner where it was needed most - my porous, dry ends.

Since I've been back home (in a marginally warmer climate) deep conditioning my ends more than I would do my whole head has really injected some life back into them. It's so much quicker than having to deep condition my whole mass of hair just to keep my pesky ends in shape. My ends dry quickly too so I'm not always having to go to bed with a wet mop of curls post-wash. I'm definitely going to continue this method in between wash days for the rest of the winter.

Key things to remember when spot conditioning...
- Identify the most damaged or dry areas of your hair (if any). This method is not intended to replace regular conditioning but add extra attention to areas which are weaker than the rest of your hair.
- Rinsing areas with water first helps remove some product build-up but be sure to let it dry a little before application to maximise conditioning.
- You can spot condition with a regular conditioner, deep conditioner, heated oils and even henna.
- Apply a generous amount of product and leave on for at least 15-30 minutes. You can do this overnight if you prefer.
- Covering the hair after application helps it stay warm during the process for better conditioning.
- How often you condition depends on your personal hair needs and lifestyle.
- Consistency and patience are key so you may have to try this a few times before you see results!

Have you tried spot conditioning?

Modern Braided Hairstyle - Natural hairstyle for mens and womens

Hi friends,

Today I tried to fix my hair in a modern look to match the pattern of my dress.  My side braid is actually a French loop braid, but it looks more like a 5 or 6 strand Dutch braid because I did not pull on the loops to make them stand out from my braid.  I put the rest of my hair into a side ponytail which I then braided in a long rope braid.  I wrapped my rope braid up into a bun.  Then I took the length of my French braid and wrapped it around the outside of my bun.  My hair is held in place with bobby pins and a single hair-clip on one side.

Hair pictures on a windy evening - Natural hairstyle for mens and womens

Hi friends,

What a windy day it has been!  I tried to take hairstyle pictures outside but the wind was too strong.  Not to be defeated, I took my hair down and got some hair-in-motion shots instead.  And...I made a new hairstyle video today, on how I fix my bangs.  I'm still working on making a video about Rey's hair-do from the new Star Wars movie.  I hope to be able to finish it soon.
Thank you for following my posts!  I'll share the link to my video separately.  Have a beautiful week-end, everyone.

Style | ASOS Reclaimed Vintage Oversized Checked Shirt - Natural hairstyle for mens and womens

I'm definitely having a moment with checked shirts. My wardrobe is filled with them but this newest addition from ASOS is my current favourite. It's so easy to wear but I'll probably rely on pairing it with black jeans, heeled chunky boots and a backpack as I have here.

When it's not dark or dull outside, it's been windy and rainy so indoor snaps may just have to be the way forward until Spring finally rolls around. I found it quite funny having to attempt to crouch or sit down to get a shot where you can see the whole of my outfit. I definitely salute the fashion bloggers who can take amazing indoor shots and make it look effortless. I really have missed doing style posts though so hopefully I get the hang of bedroom shots!

It's not often I actually let my 'fro out currently as I'm dying to get it cut in a shape but I left it wild here. If anyone in London knows of a great place to get my mane styled and not just cut, let me know!

What have you been wearing currently?

3-minute hairstyle~ perfect for a rainy day - Natural hairstyle for mens and womens

Hello everyone,

I am working on making a video of my Rey triple-bun hairstyle soon, once my hair and the weather cooperate :-)  Today I fixed my hair in a simple updo that takes less than three minutes to do.  First I made a tiny French braid on either side, then put my hair in a low ponytail and a bun.  Ta-da, I'm done and ready to start the day!  It was actually drizzling slightly when we took pictures, and you can see clouds over the mountain in the background.  A grey, rainy island day~ still beautiful as always.

The double braid + ponytail Hairstyle - Natural hairstyle for mens and womens

Hey guys! So I sat down yesterday and braided some hair back into a ponytail like I've been doing a lot lately, but this time I turned on my camera and filmed it for you guys!
This probably isn't a new hairstyle for many of you, but I've had a lot of fun lately taking my ordinary every-day hairstyles like top-knots and ponytails and adding a little somethin extra, and I hope you give this a try!

I hope you love it as much as I do, and also that you feel free to leave any feedback or questions you may have in the comments so I can help you out! It's really super simple, especially if you only do one braid, but this is just how I love doing it:)

And that's it for today! Last week was pretty crazy with my little gig in LA and then Alt Summit (which you already know about if you follow on Instagram), and I'll be posting little recaps and things for that over the next few days. I do hope you've been having a great January though, and lets plow on into February next week with high hopes and big dreams, and braids in our hair.haha

xo,

Review | Shea Moisture Coconut & Hibiscus - Natural hairstyle for mens and womens

I've been experimenting with a lot of different products of late and whilst I try not to play favourites these products from the Shea Moisture Coconut & Hibiscus line are the ones I keep reaching for again and again.

The Curl & Shine Conditioner (£10.99) gives a lot of slip and definitely makes my hair feel soft and shiny. It's made with Silk Protein (to smooth the hair) and Neem Oil (for shine and anti-frizz) as well as Coconut Oil and Hibiscus Flower extract. The consistency is quite thin and runny though as it's a daily conditioner. I was definitely expecting the formula to be a lot thicker given the ingredients and that it's produced for thick, curly hair. This hasn't been a problem for me though as it does get out tangles fairly easily. I usually apply post-shampoo, detangle and then rinse after a few minutes. If your hair gets weighed down easily this is probably a winner, but if it takes a lot more to keep the moisture in you'll may need something heavier.

The Curl Enhancing Smoothie (£12.99) is my go-to product for adding extra definition to my hair. It's very thick and the perfect partner for frizzy hair. I love that you can use it on wet or dry hair and it gives really soft crunch-less curls regardless of when you use it. I usually add a little in sections after moisturising or apply it to my ends when they're starting to look a little flat. The ingredients are similar to the Curl & Shine Conditioner but this product also has Carrot Oil, Avocado Oil and Aloe Vera Extract and it smells so good.

I've been using the Shea Moisture Coconut & Hibiscus Curl & Shine Styling Milk too but as I've already reviewed this I won't detail much of what I've stated already. I've been using it mostly with the above products and it provides the right amount of moisture to my strands. The bottle is tiny though so I get through it quite quickly!

I'll definitely be picking up the Curl Enhancing Smoothie and the Styling Milk again soon. The price is a killer and I wish the products were much bigger. There are certain brands I'm willing to pay more for though and Shea Moisture is definitely one of them. I like the Curl & Shine Conditioner but it's no patch on the Superfruit Complex Conditioner so I'll be grabbing another bottle of that when it's all finished. I picked up the Shea Moisture products here from Boots in-store but they're also sold online and more online retailers based in the UK are finally stocking this brand.

The Moisturising Cream: Modiê Moisturising Créme - Natural hairstyle for mens and womens

I got my hands on the new Modiê Moisturising Créme, like many of my favourite products it's an all in one multitasker. Modiê Moisturising Créme give maximum moisture to even the driest of hair types instantly, it can be used for twist outs or wash and go's. I've been using Modiê Moisturising Créme for a few weeks  applying to damp hair, I apply a small amount to each section of my hair and style as I usually would, it's great for keeping my hair soft under my wigs, I took out my twists after 4 days an my hair was amazingly soft even when using a wig cap.

Modiê Moisturising Créme isn't a curl enhancer it's not going to change your hair type, it WILL give you beautifully soft hair it's enriched with castor oil, olive oil, organic amla and manoi oil. as well as  moisturised hair it will allow YOUR curl pattern to shine. I love to wear my hair in a classic afro and Modiê Moisturising Créme gave my fro LIFE! it also kept it feeling nice in the cold weather [no crispy dryness!]

Modiê Moisturising Créme is perfect for those who like a fuss free regimen [I'm not a fan of products that make grand claims like parting the red sea], it does what it says on the jar and would be a great addition to your bathroom shelf check it out here

Style | ASOS Wishlist - Natural hairstyle for mens and womens

I've been lusting after a few fashion pieces lately and, with so many brands under one website, ASOS is usually my go-to when updating my wardrobe. It's still cold in the UK, so I want a few items which I can wear now by layering with other (warmer) items and which will work perfectly for Spring too. You can probably guess that I'm having a moment with all things grey and monochrome. Lets just say wearing bight colours has never really been my 'thing', so the more muted tones I have on hand, the better.

Technically I've already purchased the Reclaimed Vintage Shirt (only just) so you'll probably see an outfit with me wearing this soon. I'm hoping to tick off the Timberland boots soon too when they come back in stock in my size.

A little sidenote - I recently changed my blog layout to switch it up a little for 2016. I'm still ironing out parts which aren't quite to my linking, particularly how the header looks on the mobile site. Not sure what happened there but hoping to have fixed this soon.

What are you lusting after currently?
