Blue Lace Updo - Natural hairstyle for mens and womens

Hi everyone,

Yesterday I fixed my hair in two lace braids and a French braid, and put the length of my hair into a braided bun.  I pulled on sections of the braid to give my bun a loose, poofy look.  Coming up with a new name for a hairstyle can be difficult sometimes, but since I was wearing my favorite color and had lace braids~ Blue Lace Updo it is :-)

happy birthday miss ellie-bean - Natural hairstyle for mens and womens

Thursday, March 31, 2016

Eleanor's birthday was last week, and we had a wonderful little party together. She said it was the best day ever:) Even though we had some great decorations and delicious treats and cake, it was nice to check out of everything and to not worry about taking pictures and such. She wouldn't let me forget about her annual birthday shoot though, so here's to our biggest girl who came on the first day of Spring.

You're six years old Ellie! Six. years.

I know I say this every year on your birthday, but your special day is also the anniversary of my motherhood, and for that I have you to thank my sweet girl!

About a week before your birthday I decided to go through about a million pictures to pull out favorites for a post, and I didn't even make it to the day of your birth before I was a big blubbery mess. Just seeing that big belly on that little nervous and naive version of me brought back so many overwhelming memories and feelings. I get to teach you, every day since your birth, but you were teaching me long before that day:)

I love your constant questions and watching you connect the dots, I love your squeals of excitement when you're surprised, I love watching you wrinkle your nose while you're working on your homework, and seeing you tilt your face to the sky and laugh into the sunshine.

Somehow you're both fierce and gentle, chatty and quiet, adventurous and contented, confident and shy, wise and innocent. And today you have a new depth and strength that makes us proud, and excited for you. I hate the feeling of letting go a bit more when your birthday comes around, but I'll always treasure every day as your mother.

xo,
Mama

How To Downsize & Still Love Your Wardrobe - Natural hairstyle for mens and womens

As it's Spring and the season of having a good clear out I thought this post was due. In the past year I've been making a conscious effort to de-clutter my life. As much as I thought I was good at removing clutter I am also a shopaholic at heart. Every time I've downsized in the past I end up slowly replacing items again. This made managing all my belongings in my tiny corner of the world almost impossible.

I've had the most success with de-cluttering my wardrobe. I rarely have the opportunity to share my outfits on my blog, but I am so much happier with my clothes now (finally). It wasn't always that way though. I was obsessed with 'fast fashion' and that was a hard habit to kick. I thought having more stuff meant I'd have more to wear. It didn't. I had no real plan when it came to buying clothes and I never considered what my style was before either. I had to change my whole approach to my wardrobe and this is what helped me in making changes.

1 Start by taking everything out
Take every single item of clothing you own out of your wardrobe. If you leave items in the wardrobe it's easy to keep them, so pull it all out. I think this was the hardest bit for me as I hate mess. Once it's all out and piled up it can reveal just how much stuff you have and how much of a task you have on your hands. For me it was a bit of a shock seeing how much I'd spent on items that I'd never even worn, still with tags on. It was such a waste and it forced me to do something about it.

2 Sort into piles
The next step is to decide which items you want to keep, sell or give away. When de-cluttering also have a pile of items you intend to keep which may be 'out of season'. You can revisit them later when the weather has changed. Be critical with your keep pile. They need to be items you absolutely love and suit you and your style. Try clothes on, mix them with other pieces you hadn't thought of and think about the last time you wore them. If you haven't worn anything in the last year the chances are you're unlikely to wear them again.

3 Assess your 'keep' items
What you keep needs to be good quality (depending on the occasions / activities you need them for). I never used to spend a lot on individual items which left me with only a few pieces that would survive constant wear. Also, do the items you're keeping complement each other? The best wardrobe pieces have a bit of thought behind them. They work together cohesively so you have several outfit options with only a few items of clothing. It's like having a capsule-type wardrobe. It helps to choose a seasonal colour palette and the colours you love wearing most (for me it was neutrals, black and navy). It's good to limit yourself to a maximum number of clothes too in order to truly downsize. Your wardrobe isn't supposed to be restrictive so pick a number that suits you. The idea is to remind you that there's only so much space available for new additions.

4 Test your new wardrobe
The few weeks after downsizing will reveal how well your new wardrobe is working for you. There may be a few items you need you didn't consider before or you may have kept a few things you're not wearing. One trick is to turn your hangers around after you've worn an item. If after a month there's a few pieces that you haven't touched at all assess why not. Do you need to remove these items?

5 Be selective with any new additions
There's nothing wrong with following trends but will you want to wear that 'it' item in a few months time? The point is to get as much use out of your wardrobe as possible. Focus new purchases on wardrobe basics which you love which are always in style. Think denim, leather jackets, a simple (but killer) black dress. For me I've stopped impulse purchasing too - with clothing at least - and it's helped massively. I have a specific list of types of items my wardrobe is missing, even down to certain cuts, styles and colour. I look at a few options before settling on a purchase and make a conscious effort to buy better quality clothes. I'll still buy items in the sale or from 'cheap' retailers, but I'm fussier about making sure the clothes will last and fit with my style.

What's your approach to your wardrobe?

French braid in the evening - Natural hairstyle for mens and womens

Wednesday, March 30, 2016

Hello everybody,

I braided my hair in a simple sideways French braid today, and left the bun loose so it would show a little over my shoulder.  How beautiful to see such a lovely rainbow in the evening sky!

Simple yet fancy~ my look for today - Natural hairstyle for mens and womens

Hello friends,

Today I braided my hair in 2 rope braids, then wrapped both braids up into a bun clipping them in place with hair clips as I went.  I love how my hair stayed in place all day long, without coming down or looking disheveled at the end of the day.

The Quickie: A Little Pumkin Seed Oil Post - Natural hairstyle for mens and womens

For the love of Pumpkin Seeds, when I’m not stuffing them in my mouth, I'm slapping it all over my face and hair! pumpkin seed oil is moisturising for dry skin types and it also soothing for sensitive skin it and promotes hair growth.
The vitamin in Pumpkin seed oil can;

• Zinc found in the seeds help maintain collagen levels naturally for more elasticity.
• Zinc and selenium fight acne without harsh chemicals or side effects.
• Vitamin A stimulates new skin cell growth and repairs your existing skin damage.
• Essential fatty acids in pumpkin seeds help control the production of oils while maintaining moisture levels.
• Selenium also provides natural environmental and UV protection to prevent further skin damage.
• Vitamin E helps even out skin tone and minimizes the appearance of existing scars.

Pumpkin Seed Oil can promote hair growth and may be a key to stopping hair loss  as the seed oil can inhibit the enzyme known as 5-alpha reductase enzyme, which has been shown to slow and stop hair growth by producing DHT from testosterone. Pumpkin seed oil also hydrates the hair follicles promoting a healthy base for growth

The Glow: Fitglow Beauty Vita Active Foundation - Natural hairstyle for mens and womens

Monday, March 28, 2016

I've been on a bit of a journey of beauty discoveries of late due mostly to my discovery of Eco Diva Beauty, which is a one stop shop for all things eco and beauty! [go figure] I was kindly sent a whole bunch of products many that aren't readily available in the UK to test out and give my opinion on [it's a hard job but someone has to do it!] I'm going to share a few of my favourites over s series of posts. First up a product that I am very impressed with from  Fitglow Beauty I was sent their foundation and mascara. I'm IN LOVE with the Fitglow Beauty Vita Active foundation in V47, it merges their vitamin rich skincare into a foundation that does more than just give you perfect looking skin.

Fitglow has a small selection of shades,  I was initially wary of this because we all know not all shades fit all dark skin, when I first saw the shade I though it would be a little too dark, it has red undertones and looks to be a shade to dark for me however when I put this foundation on the match is pretty good [more of a tan look which I actually like], to me its more of a tinted moisturiser with a little bit more coverage which I find perfect as I have worked hard on keeping my skin clear so I don't want caked on foundation. You can build up the foundation for more coverage but I like a more "no makep" makeup look  it's also a great base if you like to contour I've found it works well with other products like my cream contour kit and highlighters. Samples are available from the Eco Diva Beauty website as this products is not cheap at $59 [£42] the price is in line with premium eco products but as it's a colour match product I suggest checking out the sample before making your purchase.
You can tell this foundation is doing more for your skin, it's light and doesn't cause me any irritation which I find when I used more mainstream lines. Fitglow foundation contains;

VITAMIN C

Provides potent antioxidant protection, shielding skin from damaging free radicals, boosting collagen production and reducing brown spots and sun damage.

BOTANICAL HYALURONIC ACID

Penetrates the dermis to secure moisture supports the skins elasticity and structure.

WAKAME BIOFERMENT

Increases skin oxygen consumption to detoxify skin and boost antioxidant defence.

BETA-CAROTENE

Protect skin from UV damage while reducing spots and refining skin texture source

The only down side would be the small shade selection, with only 7 to choose from not everyone is going to get a perfect match it's sheer enough that many will be able to use it  but it would be great if there was just one more darker shade. That being said I salute Fitglow for launching their foundations with a shade for WOC you would think this would be standard practice however so many brand do not think to do this. I've heard so many excuses from big brands that can actually afford to widen their range but if a niche brand like Fitglow beauty can do this so can the many other natural and organic brands. [sort it out Eco/organic/natural industry!]

I'm excited to try other products from Fitglow especially the skin care seen as the foundation makes my skin feel so great, Fitglow isn't really available in the UK however Eco Diva Beauty ship internationally my package arrived within about 10 days. Fitglow Beauty are definitely ones to watch.

Review | Sudio VASA Rose Gold White Earphones - Natural hairstyle for mens and womens

Sunday, March 27, 2016

I rely on music daily and earphones are just as much as a fashion accessory for me like a necklace, bag or belt. As a result the look has to match the sound and recently nothing can beat beautiful minimalistic design. Actually most of my music-related tech takes a nod from contemporary Scandinavian designers so I was really excited when Swedish earphone company Sudio contacted me about reviewing their Earphones.

I chose their VASA Rose Gold White Earphones (£55)* which is one of Sudio's premium models. Inside the box are the earphones, spare earbuds, rose gold cord clip, leather storage pouch as well as the manual and guarantee certificate. The earphones are undeniably well designed with Rose-Gold painted aluminum housing. They feature a flat anti-tangle cord, 3 button remote compatible with iOS and Android and quality sound.

Sudio state "the user is now able to hear every detail, in every instrument, in every song, giving a unique unforgettable sound experience". I've had my fair share of earphones over the past few years and these are easily the best in terms of sound quality. The in-ear feature blocks outside noise making them far superior to the standard Apple earphones which came with my iPhone 6. I've tested them with a range of musical genres and the audio is crisp and bassy with minimal sound leakage. They have better sound quality than my Frends Layla Headphones which retail for almost triple the price. These are a great option for those that want a stylish pair of earphones which sound as great as they look.

You can browse the full range of Sudio Earphones on their website. If you're interested you can get 15% off with the promo code 'freshlengths'.
